What is Delta-10 THC?

Not all THC is the same, but all create euphoria

Many understand cannabis to be associated with Delta 9 THC. As of late, Delta 8 THC has gained popularity. In recent industry news, Delta 10 is coming to light. There are differences in all of these, let’s get into them.

Delta 9

Delta 9 is “delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol”, tetrahydrocannabinol means THC. Delta 9 THC is  considered the most popular cannabinoid and its main association is in cannabis marijuana. Delta 9 THC is the cannabinoid known to produce psychoactive impact, the high.

Delta 8

Delta 8 THC is “delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol”, and is considered a minor cannabinoid found in hemp, unlike Delta 9 which is a major cannabinoid found in marijuana. Delta 8 is similar to Delta 9, it’s just considered less potent.

Delta 10

Not as popular as Delta 8 and Delta 9, Delta 10 THC, “delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol”, is also a minor cannabinoid that can be extracted from hemp and CBD. Delta 10 THC is known to be less potent than Delta 8 and Delta 9.

There isn’t a lot of information on Delta 10 because it’s so new to us. ACS Laboratory, Cannabis, Hemp, and CBD Testing, says this about Delta 10 THC:

While very little research has been done on its mechanism of action in the body, Delta-10 THC likely interacts with the endocannabinoid system in a similar way as other THC compounds. Delta-9 THC and Delta-8 THC have binding affinities towards CB1 receptors in the brain and nervous system, which produce varying levels of psychotropic effects. Delta-10 may interact similarly with CB1 receptors at high concentrations.

The Similarities Between Delta 8, Delta 9, and Delta 10

Delta 8, Delta 9, and D-10 are all THC. They are all extracted from cannabis hemp and/or cannabis marijuana. Because they are THC, they all create some level of psychoactivity (high). In a recent Plain Jane blog post, Simi states:

Worry not, fellow cannabis lovers; delta 8 will make you high! Now, the high isn’t as potent as, say, our regular weed (which contains delta-9 THC). But, it’s still a great choice and, if not even better than regular delta-9 THC.

Leafly says:

Chemically, delta-8 and delta-10 operate on the same basic concept. While they’re derived from hemp in different ways, they’re both cannabinoids that occur naturally in cannabis. With these different versions of THC, it’s just a matter of where the bonds are in the chemical structure.

The biggest difference is, Delta 8 THC allows us to get legally high, while Delta 9 THC is still on schedule I.
