Ocean Green Healing is a company dedicated to healing through hemp/CBD, founded by Zach and Gigi. This Oregon based couple makes all of their products with their 4 hands, and describe them as:
“All our herbal plant infusions are done in house using a slow and low heat method that preserves all the beneficial compounds within the plant. We find the highest quality plant material from certified organic farms”.
They use high quality extracts and essential oils from plants containing anti-inflammatory properties like hemp, arnica, St. John’s Wort, Frankincense, Lavender, and Sea Kelp. Their products are tested using 3rd party testing- from multiple ORELAP accredited labs.
The Ocean Green Healing product line includes: CBD bath bombs and sets, CBD salves and sets, subscription boxes, hand sanitizer, and body oil. I had the pleasure of interviewing both founders for the hemp industry leaders column. Check out the interview below.
Tell me about the birth of the business; what was the conversation that launched the business?
“Gigi’s mother sent us a variety of salves a few years back as a gift that she handcrafted at their family farm in California. Each one had a specific purpose: pain, relaxation, or for respiratory relief. None of them had cannabis in them, but I remember us talking about taking these proven recipes and added Cannabis to them.
We also discussed reworking the recipes from plant medicine knowledge we had acquired. I took a class on herbalism and we started working on our first product, the full spectrum salve. After a bad ski accident and back injury, it was this salve that we reworked and perfected, that provided more relief than anything else we tried.
We began gifting our salve to friends and family that we knew could find relief by using it. They started telling their friends, and their friends, and we were getting amazing feedback. We came up with a name after spending a relaxing weekend on the Oregon Coast and went from there!”
Your products are made from southern Oregon grown hemp; can you tell me about your partners a bit- the cultivators that grow the hemp used in your products?
“Yes! We take a lot of pride in knowing exactly where our hemp comes from. Red Beard Farms LLC, was started by one of my best friends that I met while attending the University of Oregon. The Red Beard family are a small, 3rd generation family farm, in the heart of the Applegate Valley in Southern Oregon. They only grow about 10 acres a season, so the plants really get the attention they need both in the growth phase and the processing phase including drying and curing.
Red Beard Farms uses only organic farming practices. We normally get to spend time down there on the farm and sometimes even give a hand in the production. We feel fortunate to have such a close relationship with our hemp farmer.”
Your salves have sea kelp in them which I love! Why the use of sea kelp in the salve?
“Sea kelp provides many benefits to our skin. It is a mineral, nutrient, antioxidant rich, and is known to help soften and hydrate dry skin. It helps your skin retain moisture, keeping it hydrated for longer and will also draw out any excess fluid, dead cells, and toxins.
Sea Kelp also is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. I like to think of it as one of the “super plants” of the ocean. We also include sea kelp in our eucalyptus/rosemary bomb and are incorporating it into our soaking salts that will be coming to the market soon.”
What does a normal production day look like?
“Our process can take many forms. The infusions we make can take up to 72 hours to finish. We infuse all our plant medicines in house which includes not only hemp, but St. John’s Wort, calendula, arnica, and sea kelp.
We source all this material in its raw form and infuse directly into our carrier oils. We have done solar infusions in the summer that take up to 3 weeks, so it just depends. Some days and nights we are mixing and forming bath bombs, other days we might be making and pouring salves. We enjoy the flexibility and variety each production day involves. We are always working on it in one way or another.”
