5 Ways to Incorporate CBD Into Your Resolutions

The idea of a fresh start is so appealing that Forbes reported 40% of Americans make resolutions at the beginning of each new year. However, the publication also reported that about 80% fail within 30 days! If you are making resolutions this new year, that statistic may sound intimidating; but luckily there may be something you can do to help keep your resolutions through the year to come.

Supplementing Your Resolutions with CBD

Recently, people have begun turning to CBD products to help them stick with their new routines often associated with New Year’s resolutions. CBD is widely used to help users achieve natural support and relief. These are some of the most popular New Year’s resolutions and how CBD can be incorporated into each one:

A New Workout Routine With CBD

CBD is thought to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Keep in mind that retail CBD products are still not intended for medical use and have not been evaluated by the FDA for efficacy, side effect, or safety. But, anecdotally and in research, there is growing support of CBD for this reason.

Athletes such as UFC champion TJ Dillashaw have widely taken to promoting CBD products that they have had good personal experiences with. Just remember that they are unique individuals (not doctors), and everyone will have their own unique experience when it comes to CBD products and personal use. However, CBD has become popular enough with athletes that is is no longer prohibited by the Olympics.

CBD for Weight Loss

Cannabinoids work on the body’s endocannabinoid system. This body system consists of receptors that send and receive signals to help regulate the body. Since metabolism is one major biological function, it may benefit from homeostasis in the endocannabinoid system. When you supplement your endocannabinoid system with CBD, the aim is to reach this biologic balance.

CBD researchers believe that the cannabinoid may be especially helpful in conditions of obesity and diabetes:

Currently, the non-psychotropic component of Cannabis sativa—CBD is in the center of interest, due to its well-established anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-convulsant, anti-psychotic and potential anti-obesity properties. Many studies indicated that CBD affects both lipid and glucose metabolism through the action on various receptors as well as several metabolites.

THCV is another non-psychoactive cannabinoid and is thought to suppress appetite. This minor cannabinoid is hard to find because it is not prominent in most hemp strains. More research is needed to really find out if and how THCV and CBD can work to aid weight loss, but there is exciting research signaling that it is worth more investigation:

THCV did not significantly affect food intake or body weight gain in any of the studies, but produced an early and transient increase in energy expenditure. It dose-dependently reduced glucose intolerance in ob/ob mice and improved glucose tolerance and increased insulin sensitivity in DIO mice, without consistently affecting plasma lipids. THCV also restored insulin signalling in insulin-resistant hepatocytes and myotubes.

THCV is a new potential treatment against obesity-associated glucose intolerance with pharmacology different from that of CB1 inverse agonists/antagonists.

More Productivity From CBD

Anecdotally, many CBD users find that some strains of hemp and CBD products seem to help them focus better and be more productive. There really isn’t much research on this phenomenon and those individual’s experiences should not be taken as a broader claim. But it is an exciting observation. There are many reasons people become fatigued and less productive. Perhaps the broader experience of using CBD is aiding them in achieving their goals?

Reducing Anxiety and Promoting Sleep With CBD

If you are one of the millions of Americans suffering from sleep problems like insomnia or restless leg syndrome, CBD may be of interest to you. However, you may be disappointed to learn the CBD for sleep does not appear to actually influence the sleep-wake cycle. Instead, CBD is thought to promote sleep by balancing mood chemicals like serotonin. Researchers believe that CBD works on mood balance via the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor.

Researchers have a lot of evidence supporting the theory that CBD supports homeostasis, including balancing mood influencing factors. While CBD is still not approved for medical use as an anti-anxiety medication, it is one of the more supported medical claims about CBD when it comes to all of the things you hear in CBD marketing.

Quitting Smoking with Hemp Cigarettes

CBD research points out that CBD has the potential to aid in stopping addictive behaviors, like quitting smoking (more details in this link):

CBD is an exogenous cannabinoid that acts on several neurotransmission systems involved in addiction. Animal studies have shown the possible effects of CBD on opioid and psychostimulant addiction, while human studies presented some preliminary evidence of a beneficial impact of CBD on cannabis and tobacco dependence. CBD has several therapeutic properties on its own that could indirectly be useful in the treatment of addiction disorders, such as its protective effect on stress vulnerability and neurotoxicity.
